Stars Can’t Shine Without Darkness

How can we shine bright when the darkness sets in?

On any given day, many of us are facing a situation we don’t like.

Are YOU going through this right now?

I am.

Is something happening inside you today that really isn’t what you want in your life?

A situation that is not just an unfavorable circumstance, but something that causes you internal pain?

Do you feel like you’re in a dark hole at times and can’t climb out?

I have those days.

Yesterday I was doing pretty well and today is more of a challenge.

My mission is to get up every morning and choose to face the day head on in the BEST way possible.

I choose to do what serves me and the people around me to the best of my ability.

I work hard to keep up with the needs of my husband and daughter, work commitments and every other aspect of life that requires me to step into responsibility.

And some days are tougher than others.

Some days I have moments of doubt and fear, regardless of whether I choose something positive at the onset.

I cry, I get down and I let the feelings wash over me for awhile.

Then I remember that stars can’t shine without darkness.

I have come to know that sometimes we are thrown into the depths of a situation so that we will grow.

We get a chance to shine when the world looks dark.

We get to feel all the feels and also see that every situation in our lives presents an opportunity.

“In the darkest time, I have always believed, the light will shine.” — Lailah Gifty Akita

It is whether we choose to see it as an opportunity, or not.

Do we see it as an opportunity for more greatness, higher consciousness and a preparation for something

OR

an unfavorable situation that has no point?

I believe there is SO MUCH to gain from the tough times.

There is a song I love with the following lyrics:

“What if your blessings come from raindrops, what if your healing comes through tears?” — ‘Blessings’ by Laura Story

What if THEY do?

What if every trial we face actually has a purpose?

What if, in holding back, we become dimmer and fade into the darkness?

Is that what we truly want?

There is an alternative….

WE CAN LET OUR LIGHT SHINE!

We can understand that shrinking back will only rob ourselves of the positive experiences we crave.

It also robs other people of the light we can shine on them in their darker times.

“Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being.” — Albert Schweitzer

When we shine in the darkness, knowing that there is a purpose in every trial we face, we can LIBERATE others.

We can choose to continue moving forward, knowing that things will get better and that character is forged in the valley.

That shrinking back and becoming hardened due to the trials of life only hurts us in the long run.

One of my favorite pieces of writing OF ALL TIME sums it up beautifully:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” — Marianne Williamson

We have so much light within us and we get to choose to keep shining it.

For ourselves and for others.

In confidence, letting go of the fear that holds us back.

I choose to believe that I owe it to myself to keep giving off light, even if it grows a bit dimmer at times.

I never let the flame go out, even though at times it’s been tempting.

Based on results, I have become a better, stronger human being through facing each trial — and overcoming.

I fought through, grew and made a difference.

Day by day, one at a time.

I continued to persevere.

Not always easy, however always worth it.

I believe that what I’m struggling with today will allow me to help someone else in the future.

It is also going to refine me.

This challenge will help me see more of my own light so I can be brighter for others.

So as I go through this unfavorable situation, I look to the future and know that it will result in good.

I am being prepared for something and I choose to be GRATEFUL for that.

YOU are also being prepared.

So step into the pain and walk through it with your head held high.

Seize the opportunity to be blown around by the storms of life because they will test and refine you.

When darkness hits, choose Light & Love — for yourself and everyone around you.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Light up the world, even when you feel darkness in you.

Shining amidst the darkness gives you the opportunity to see your own light.

And allows others to see it too.

Without the darkness, your true light would not be seen.

And you wouldn’t have the opportunity to shine as bright!
